NigatsuBebe is a project that started about a year ago. The project plan was simple: I love crafting, and I have a lot of supplies and no where to put them. Therefore, I should make things and sell them for the side income. It started out as a hobby, and this year, I want to make it a “real” business.
The name “NigatsuBebe” is actually a reference to a Myspace Survey chain letter; a question said “If you could name a band after your month of birth and your pet, what would the name be?” February, Bastet. But we just call that sweet fat cat “Bebe”. “February Bebe” just didn’t have the right ring to it though, so I converted it into a language I moderately spoke at the time (Japanese), so “February Bebe” became “NigatsuBebe”!
Bebe herself got in on the action when she started pulling out yarns and beads as I worked, deciding for me what would be made next, or suggesting something she liked. She doesn’t have bad colour sense, for a cat. Yarn, of course, she likes most of all- she likes to burrow in it, when she gets the chance! So I have a special bag of acrylic Red Heart just for her. Some very good work was spawned from ideas she had- the agate and hematite pieces were her choices too. Although, I never let her near seed beads. And when I say that, I do mean “seeds”- I purchase seeds from the Amazon and turn them into jewellery! Some are harmful to animals, or have unknown properties, but all are regularly (and safely) worn by people in South America. But then, people are not cats, and are not as likely to put such things into their mouths.
In the end, NigatsuBebe became two stores- the original shop for jewellery and accessories that I made, and BebeVintage (and Supplies) for extra supplies and vintage pieces I find. I am a big fan of reusing items, and especially repurposing them, if they are too damaged to be used in the original way intended! I come across lots of pieces that I intend to use, but know I’ll never get around to using them. In the end, I turn around and share them with you all! So, BebeVintage became a necessity as well.
With a little encouragement over the past year, I think I’m finally ready to launch NigatsuBebe and BebeVintage (and Supplies) as full-scale businesses! To start, I’ve made a list of a handful of goals for this year. I hope to accomplish them all soon! Wish me luck, and please visit our shops for a look around!
